On Thursday, the Federal Government announced the return of a stolen IIe-Ife artifact from Mexico.
These were made known on Twitter by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who received it from Charge D’affaires of the Nigerian mission in Mexico, Yakubu Dadu.

According to the minister’s tweet, he tweeted that, he was presented with an ancient bronze sculpture by Dr. Yakubu Dadu, the Charge D’affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Mexico.
Also, he tweeted that the artifact was stolen from Nigeria and it was noticed at the airport by former Ambassador, Aminu Iyawa in Mexico.
The Minister explained that the former ambassador was suspicious of the artifact and alerted the authorities who played a significant role in ensuring it was returned to the country.
Onyeama, also thank the Mexican government for its role in the return of the artifact, stating that, he will present it at a later date to the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
Recall, late month, the University of Aberdeen said it will return a Benin Bronze to Nigeria after many years of its loot.
