Ozoro, Delta State – June 22, 2025 Southern Delta University, Ozoro — formerly known as Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro — has officially announced the relocation of eight academic departments under its Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences to its Orerokpe Campus. The Orerokpe campus is situated in Okpe Local Government Area, while the main campus remains in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area.
The decision, reached during a recent Senate meeting of the university’s management, mandates that both staff and students in the affected departments begin operations in Orerokpe starting from the 2025/2026 academic session, effective September 2025.
Departments Affected
The departments to be fully relocated to the Orerokpe campus are:
- Accounting
- Banking & Finance
- Business Administration
- Entrepreneurship
- Marketing
- Office & Information Management
- Public Administration
- Transport & Marine Management
These departments make up the entire Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences and will now function exclusively from the new location.
New Provost Appointed for Orerokpe Campus
In a move to strengthen leadership at the new campus, the university management has appointed Professor Akpovghaye Taiga as the Provost of the Orerokpe Campus. His appointment is seen as a significant step towards establishing a solid administrative and academic base in the Okpe region.
Advisory to Parents and Students
The university has issued an important advisory urging parents, guardians, and students in the affected departments to begin preparations for the move.
“If your child or ward is a student in any of the listed departments, do not renew house rent in Ozoro. Instead, begin early preparations to secure accommodation in Orerokpe,” the university advised.
Purpose Behind the Relocation
According to university insiders, the relocation is part of a broader vision to expand the institution’s presence across the state, decongest the Ozoro campus, and bring higher education closer to surrounding communities, particularly in Delta Central.
While the development has been welcomed by some as a step toward regional integration and academic decentralization, it has also raised concerns among stakeholders. Immediate challenges identified include issues related to housing, transportation, and basic facilities at the Orerokpe campus.
What’s Next?
The university management is expected to provide further information and guidance in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition for both students and staff. Stakeholders are encouraged to remain alert and follow updates from official university channels to avoid disruptions.
Southern Delta University’s relocation strategy marks a bold step in the institution’s growth and commitment to serving all parts of Delta State. As the transition unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring that academic quality and student welfare are not compromised.
