Shock in Osun as Governor Ademola Adeleke Quits PDP

OSOGBO — The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective from November 4, 2025.

The resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman for Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, of Ede North Local Government Area, Osun State. In the letter, Adeleke cited internal turmoil at the party’s national leadership as the impetus for his decision.

In the letter, the governor wrote:

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”

He went on to express gratitude to the PDP “for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party.”

The announcement was made public through a statement issued late Monday night by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

Governor Adeleke is becoming the latest sitting governor to quit the PDP — a development that could shift the political balance in Osun State ahead of the upcoming 2026 elections.

Though he resigned, the governor has not yet publicly declared which political party he plans to join next.

The sudden move jolts the PDP’s preparations for its 2026 governorship election in Osun, putting the party’s plans and internal cohesion into question.
