A veteran Nigerian Catholic music singer and music composer, Jude Nnam, had filed N150m copyright infringement at the Federal High Court against the Five Star Music label boss, E-Money, and his brother Kcee.
Jude Nnam has repeatedly alleged that Kcee’s’ Cultural Praise’ Vol. 1 album has included his 2021 composition ‘Som Too Chukwu’ without his authorization.
It was gathered that Jude Nnam, compose the song only for private worship and liturgical purposes in the Catholic Church.
He also maintains that the song ‘Som Too Chukwu’ was performed in Abuja during the second visit of Saint Pope John Paul II’s to Nigeria, in 1988 whom he was the director of the “Papal Choir of a Thousand Voices.”
According to Jude Nnam’s lawyer, Micheal Amakeze stated that he had written to the defendant on the alleged copyright infringement but the plaintiff ignored and show no concern since January 28, 2021.
The lawyer in his document that was filed to the Federal High Court, part of it read:
“Nnam is seeking declaration “that the defendants jointly and severally infringed on his copyright “by adapting, producing, distributing, marketing, advertising, and performing” the song to the general public “without his consent or authorization (either written or oral).
“He is also seeking perpetual Injunction retraining, preventing and or prohibiting the defendants whether acting by themselves, or through their servants, agents, privies, legal representatives, or any other person howsoever from infringing on his copyright to the song.”
