The founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gate, 65, and his wife, Melinda Gates, 56, have announced that they are divorcing after 27 years of marriage with three children and a joint foundation known as ‘Bill & Melinda Foundation (a foundation on global health, gender equality, education, and others causes).
The announcement came from a joint statement they shared on their verified Twitter page on Monday, May 3, 2021.
According to the couple while announcing their divorce stated that “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have decided to end our marriage,”
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” they wrote.
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”
However, the statement did not offer additional details on why they are divorcing, rather, it stated “We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
Meanwhile, Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, met at Microsoft in 1987, shortly after she joined the tech company and they married in 1994.
Bill Gates, a philanthropist started Microsoft Corporation when he was a teenager and he once be the richest man in the world.
He stepped down as Microsoft boss in 2018 to devote more time to philanthropy until he later left the board, keeping only the title of founder and technology advisor.
