Nollywood veteran actor and lawyer, Kanayo. O. Kanayo, has said old Nollywood movies have better storytelling despite having technical support at the period.
The actor made this known after he shared an old movie video of himself and his colleague, Charles Okafor on his Instagram page on Monday, December 13, 2021, while reflecting on the current state of the film industry.
In his post, the 59-year-old film star supported its post with the caption “This period witnessed better storytelling, lower technical support.”
In 1992, Kanayo made his acting debut in ‘Living in Bondage, a Nollywood classic, and since then, he has stabilized himself as a household name in the movie industry with various awards and distinctions.
The movie star had earlier hit back at critics who mocked him for influencing ritual roles in films.
According to him, he said “What’s the link between Kanayo O Kanayo and the role he played as Nicholas? There are certain questions people ask you all the time such that it looks as if these people don’t think,” he had said.
“Let gossipers be. They should go educate themselves. Even among Jesus’ disciples, Luke was a doctor. They all had what they were doing before they were called.
“You take up a role and interpret the script so well, only for viewers to ask if you truly do money rituals. What’s one’s business with that? What people should understand is I have a profession.”
In September 2020, Kanayo became a lawyer after being called to the Nigerian bar.
