Popular Nigerian Celebrity and social media comedian, Samuel.A.Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi has revealed why he started comedy, says he started comedy skits on social media out of poverty and hunger for fame.
According to an interview he had with Punch, Broda Shaggi revealed how his journey to stardom started after he relocated to live with his aunty in Lagos following the death of his father as he was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
He said, he discovered his talent while still living with his mother in the Makoko area of Lagos, he added, that’s where everything started.
Broda Shaggi also revealed how breaking into the showbiz industry seems to be like leaving one particular world to the other, asserting that, poverty is a bad thing.
He further stated that he came into the limelight following his humorous social media skits, he said, what has kept him going was his hard work, consistency, love for his fans, and who he is, adding that, he’s a product of hard work and consistency.
He further stressed that consistency is the hardest thing to do to get to the top stating that, you will keep trying every day never to give up on your dream. According to him, cracking jokes is a 24/7 job that kept him going, he said every time he woke up, he always thinks of new ideas to push out.
While enunciating how he generates his ideas, he said, he generates his ideas mostly at night when he is done with the day time struggle. In his words: “I write mostly at night but anytime I generate a new idea, you will start laughing and immediately break the good to my people before putting the idea on paper.”
Broda Shaggi also stated what prompted him into doing comedy was his desire to make people laugh anytime they watch him despite the situation of the country, stressing that, comedy is what he loves doing and he likes to make it real so that people can relate with it.
He said, there’s this joy that comes when being in the spotlight, that joy when you go out and people recognize you as one that has been bringing happiness to their homes, that joy when people want to take pictures with you as their role model. He added, he feels elated because it was something he never had before but after the recognition of the character called Broda Shaggi, he started having such.

Broda Shaggi also revealed how his late father who taught drama at Mayflower Junior School, Ikenne, motivated him into acting, he said, he has acted in many roles and played some characters like Inspector Perry, a policeman, Professor Dele, and Akonni Ibadan. According to him, this was before he went with the stage name, Broda Shaggi while still an undergraduate in Unilag until he reportedly took his comedy talent seriously.
According to him, he became popular after his unique style of comedy skits, “Oya Hit Me” on Instagram even though he knew he had a natural flair to be a comedian as a child, he knew he had always wanted to make people laugh.
Broda Shaggi also said, he never earned a living from selling artworks after studying Visual Art from the University of Lagos, rather, he was conceived with his brand of comedy while using social media as his launchpad.
He said, he didn’t take a long time before he started attracting the attention of corporate bodies and events organizers. Stating that, he has become a household name in the Nigerian showbiz industry with a lot of endorsement deals to show for it while adding that his massive presence on social media happened as a result of his consistency and it’s has really paid off.
Talking about his endorsement deals, he said, he intends to works with more brands by ensuring that he improves on those things they saw in him.
Broda Shaggi, he doesn’t call himself a comedian, is not only a comedian, but is also a singer, actor, and voice-over artist who sees himself as an entertainer that do anything that has to do with entertainment.
Broda Shaggi after making his debut in the entertainment scene has not looked back on his quest to dominate his own space, he has become a character who has come to stay.
He was currently ranked among the most successful and sought after entertainers in the country, he has over 7.1 million followers on Instagram after breaking new grounds and crossing boundaries with his craft.
