The Publisher of ‘The Story’, Comrade Kenneth Orusi, has called upon the Federal and Delta State Government to take dividend of democracy to the coastal communities especially the oil-producing state.
Comrade Orusi while addressing newsmen on Saturday, March 26, at Okwuama, Ehwu Clan in Ughelli South LGA made this revelation after he paid his last respect to his elder brother, late Onome Emmanuel Orusi, who died in a ghastly motor accident on Friday, February 5, 2021, along Ughelli-Asaba dual carriage road, Otor-Iyede junction, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Comrade Orusi stated that the Federal, State, and Local Government should pay more attention to the coastal communities where 80 percent of the revenue used to run the country and state are derived from, yet, they lack government presence.
We stated that “Up till this 21st century, there is no road to his community, Okwuama, stating that, there no power supply though there are poles with cables hanging on them, yet the community has no light for over 40 years and still counting.”
He went further to say that, “It is still heartbreaking that there is an overhead tank but it has never supplied water any day. Stating that my people still rely on the water from the stream for their daily lived. That is where they fish, drink, cook, wash, and take their bath. It is a life of slum.” He added.
He continued, “The healthcare center is not equipped to take care of pregnant women and can’t administer vital drugs when they are sick.”
He said, “Very painful the primary school, the teachers are just there to receive salaries without meaningfully impacting knowledge on the children. “
He faulted the purpose of NDDC and DESOPADEC stating that “What purpose was these commission created for.”
The Editor-in-Chief also expressed dissatisfaction over the community that is been ravaged by the flood with no one coming to their assistance, stating that despite having representatives at all levels of government.
The Editor-in-chief, while expressing his dissatisfaction, also called on the President Muhammadu Buhari and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administrations to put into consideration the people living in the riverine communities as they are Nigerians and Deltans who also deserves a better standard of living.
He stated, “I have to stay on the water for good 30 minutes with a speed boat or one hour thirty minutes on an engine boat locally called kpekpekpe by the people.”
