A source had disclosed that over 50 bodies of vigilante members were ambushed and killed by Bandits in the Dutsen Magaji forest near the Koton Kobo community.
The source said the bodies were recovered by soldiers and residents of Koton Kobo in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the source, the vigilante men were returning from a search operation when they were ambushed by the Dogo Gide led banditry group operating in the Dutsen Magaji forest.
The source also said that the gunmen attacked a military post in the community and a soldier was killed.
The source further said that a reinforcement team that was sent to rescue men of the vigilante group that were abducted was also ambushed and were killed the same way their colleagues were killed.
According to the source, after killing the vigilantes, the bandits still refuses to grant access to pick their bodies until soldiers stormed the forest to collect the bodies on Thursday, it was gathered that the Dogo Gide-led banditry group was so powerful in that area to the extent of collecting taxes from farmers and herdsmen.
