What Happened?
In Kano State, Nigeria, a young couple was arrested because they got married without asking their parents for permission. The marriage took place at a party venue, and someone who wasn’t related to them helped pay the bride price (a traditional gift given to the bride’s family).
Why Was This a Problem?
In Islam, couples need to get their parents’ approval before getting married. The Kano State Hisbah Board, a group that enforces Islamic rules, said this marriage was not allowed because it didn’t follow these traditions. They called it “un-Islamic” and said it was wrong.
What Did the Hisbah Board Do?
The Hisbah Board arrested the couple and said they would also investigate their friends and anyone else who helped them with the secret marriage. They want to make sure this doesn’t happen again. The leader of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, thanked people who reported the marriage and said they are working hard to stop similar situations in the future.
What Can We Learn From This?
This story shows how important it is to follow traditions and rules, especially when it comes to big decisions like marriage. It also reminds us to always involve our families in important life choices.
