School Reopening: Institution lauds Buhari, Okowa, as freshers receive matriculation oath in Delta

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been commended for reopening tertiary institutions in the country after seven months of closure as a result of the coronavirus pandemic

Chief Nkenchor Okwuokenye, Chairman of the Governing Council of Calvary Polytechnic, Owa-Oyibu, gave the commendation at the 4th Matriculation ceremony of the institution held recently.

Chief Okwuokenye explained the reopening was a welcome development, noting that education remained one of the most veritable pivots for economic development and socio-political change.

He also said the nation’s economic development is increasingly tied with her ability to acquire and apply technical knowledge in her developmental strides.

The chairman stated that polytechnic education is expected to provide the needed middle level manpower that will serve as the engine of growth for the economy.

“The glaring gap in the number of students who write JAMB and those admitted annually in the educational sector and Government’s commitment to providing access at all levels of education necessitated the quest for the establishment of Calvary Polytechnic, Owa-Oyibu in Delta state” he added.

While eulogizing, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the roles he played in the establishment of the institution, in his remarks, the Acting Rector of Calvary Polytechnic, Mr. Monday Morka stressed that the vision of the Polytechnic is to train students to become responsible and change enhancing members of the society in various field of human endeavours as well to prepare students to be articulate, critical and creative thinkers.

Meanwhile, he called on the matriculants to take their studies seriously, he Said “do not join in the present slogan that school is a scam”.

“I charge you to be extrinsically motivated, which doing something for the immediate reward like praise, money, cheers from crowd but to be intrinsically motivated. Be wise and love your studies as monkeys love banana” he added.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation Oath by the Registrar, Mr. Mike Ebomah.
