Sagamu, Ogun State – A Sagamu Magistrate Court has granted bail to Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the deadly crash that claimed the lives of two close associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
Kayode, 46, was charged by the police on Friday, January 2, 2026, with dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.
The court set N5 million bail with two sureties, and Kayode was remanded at a correctional facility pending the fulfilment of bail conditions. The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for trial, according to Oluseyi Babaseyi, Ogun State Police spokesperson.
The incident occurred last Monday near the Sinoma area in Sagamu, when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and three others collided with a stationary truck while travelling from Lagos to Sagamu.
Joshua survived with minor injuries and was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on Wednesday. Tragically, his long-time friend and strength/conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer Kevin Latif Ayodele died in the accident.
Preliminary investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) suggested the crash was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, while the Ogun State Police Command attributed the accident to a tyre burst.
The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation, while family members and fans continue to mourn the loss of Joshua’s aides. The case has drawn nationwide attention, highlighting concerns over road safety and compliance with driving regulations.
