The Special Assistant to Governor Okowa of Delta State on Students Affairs, Comrade Francis Osedume Iwedike, has called on students in the country to spend more time towards academic excellence.
This was disclosed on Friday at the 2020 WAEC Success Conference held in Ogwashi-uku for SS3 Students drawn from different secondary schools in Aniocha South Local government area of Delta State.
Osedume, who was a special guest and speaker at the conference, urged those registered for the 2020 West African Examination Council (WAEC), not to see examination malpractice as the solution to academic excellence in the forthcoming examination.

He said students should develop the tradition of reading continuously in order to be independent during examinations.
Speaking further, Osedume expressed dissatisfaction over some Nigerian graduates who cannot defend the wonderful certificates in their hands during job interviews noting that they are results of those from ‘miracle centers.

“A competent and outstanding graduate from any institution should be able to defend the certificate he or she has irrespective of the discipline or course studied”.
He, therefore, advises students particularly those preparing for the 2020 WAEC examinations not to depend on special centers stressing that it has damaged the destinies of so many people in the country.

“because of special centers, most students no longer read while preparing for the examination and this has caused more damage to our country at large”.
The Special Assistant who is a professional and graduate in accounting used his life as an example to the students noting that there was never a time he stopped reading in his life even after school.

Assume who said the reward for hard work is more work noted that God has taken him to enviable positions in life because of hard work and dedication.
Speaking on job creation, he stated that the available jobs are meant for the smart people who are few in society today. He advised the students to be in the wagon of the smart ones.

“There are no jobs in the country and the available ones are meant for those that are smart and prepared, not those with distinction or 2/1 and cannot defend it “.
“For you not to be among those that are not prepared, you have to take your academics seriously. Don’t wait till you have an examination before reading, start reading from the very first day” he said.

He also said “academic excellence is the demonstrated ability to perform, to achieve and excel in scholastic activities. Academic Excellence is not all about your grades. Coming out first in class is good but that is not all about academic excellence. Academic excellence is the maximum development of your intellectual capacities and skills in service to humanity”.
Meanwhile, the Initiator/Founder of MC Alleluya Event Enterprise, Comrade Samuel Akpobasanhan is popularly known as MC Alleuluya, while speaking to the students said there is no limit to what anybody can achieve in life stressing that students should always have a positive ambition towards their academic pursuit.
Responding to questions from students, Alleluya said Students should avoid emulating their friends while choosing a course to study in the higher institution adding that this has caused more harm than good to students on campus.
In a related development, the Administrative Officer, who is also the coordinator of the teenage wing, Christ Embassy Church, Sumit Road Branch Asaba, Nkemakonam Onwordi, spoke at the conference charging the students to be focused and determined to achieve success in their academics and every part of their lives.

She said education is the awakening of the innate ability in man for effective development of the environment.
Nkemakonam who is also a dynamic Motivational Speaker, used her life as an example, describing her achievements within a short time as the handwork of God and seriousness.
