Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that the state will overcome its current governance and political challenges, saying divine support will sustain its leadership, institutions, and people through difficult times.
The governor made the statement on Sunday through his deputy, Ngozi Odu, at the 2026 Holy Ghost Rally organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Fubara said the state government remains hopeful and resolute, drawing strength from faith in God amid uncertainty. He described the rally’s theme, “The All-Sufficient God,” as timely, reassuring, and relevant to the present realities facing Rivers State.
“With the Almighty God on our side, our challenges are surmountable and our future remains hopeful,” the governor said, adding that the theme serves as a reminder that God remains a constant source of wisdom, strength, provision, and grace even when human efforts fall short.
According to him, moments of uncertainty are often when God’s sufficiency is most evident, stressing that when human ability reaches its limit, divine intervention takes over.
Fubara also commended the RCCG for its consistent prayers for Rivers State and Nigeria, noting that the church has continued to promote moral values, unity, peace, and faith among citizens, especially during trying times.
Delivering the sermon at the rally, the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, spoke from Genesis 17:1, describing God as all-sufficient and capable of meeting every human need. He said the same God who created all things also has the power to repair, restore, and renew lives and societies.
Adeboye noted that while human effort — including medical and scientific interventions — has its limits, there are situations where only God can step in to reverse conditions that appear hopeless.
Also speaking, the Pastor in charge of the Rivers Province of the RCCG, Adesoji Oni, said the Port Harcourt Holy Ghost Rally, which began in 2015, has grown into a major annual spiritual gathering with significant impact on the state.
Oni explained that beyond spiritual upliftment, the church has expanded its social responsibility initiatives across Rivers State. These include skills acquisition centres, maternity facilities, rehabilitation centres for individuals battling substance abuse, and an innovative mind hub aimed at youth development.
Meanwhile, Rivers State continues to grapple with a deepening political crisis arising from a prolonged feud between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The crisis escalated on January 8 when the Rivers State House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy. The process was initiated after the leader of the House, Major Jack, read allegations of gross misconduct against Fubara, reportedly endorsed by 26 lawmakers.
Political tensions in the state intensified further following President Bola Tinubu’s decision to lift the six-month emergency rule earlier imposed on Rivers State, as well as Governor Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
