The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has announced the release of money meant for local governments that were previously withheld.
He made this announcement on Friday in Port Harcourt while meeting with local government administrators. Ibas, who was once the Chief of Naval Staff, said his main focus is to make sure workers receive their salaries on time. He admitted that many workers have struggled due to delayed payments and promised that his administration would ensure salaries are paid quickly.
“I understand the pain of the workers,” Ibas said, assuring them that they would soon get their money.
He also warned that all local governments must be careful with public funds. To ensure transparency, he directed them to submit their salary records for proper review. He promised to take action against anyone who misuses government money.
Ibas added that good leadership is not just about words but about real action. He said his goal is to bring positive change to the state in the next six months. He also urged local government officials to take responsibility for security in their areas.
The leader of local government workers, Clifford Paul, who also heads the Port Harcourt Local Government, praised the federal government for appointing Ibas. He said workers had not been paid for two months but are now hopeful because the money has been released.
Paul also promised to support peace and development in the state while urging the administrator to always consider the well-being of workers.
