The Rivers State House of Assembly has resumed plenary after six months of emergency rule, calling on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to send in the names of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation.
The resolution was reached on Thursday during the House’s first sitting since the suspension of its legislative activities.
Presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the House also urged the governor to begin the process of drafting an Appropriation Law for the remaining part of the year.
Lawmakers explained that these steps are necessary to restore normal governance in the state and ensure that government ministries can function properly.
The confirmation of commissioners, according to the House, will make the executive arm more effective, while an appropriation law will help the state allocate funds to key sectors and projects.
Speaker Amaewhule described the resolutions as vital for stability and progress in Rivers State, stressing that the House was committed to supporting governance in the interest of citizens.
The resumption of plenary marks a major step in reviving the legislative process after six months of inactivity under emergency rule.
Governor Fubara has not yet responded to the resolutions.
