Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, better known as Seyi Shay, has been under attack on Twitter over her harsh judgment on a young man during an episode of the Nigerian Idol, a television reality show.
According to Seyi Shay, who happens to be one of the judges in this year’s series of television reality shows, said to the singer on Sunday that somebody lied to him to come to the audition, asking the singer to go back to the person and tell him that he is not his friend.
The singer was nervous and devastated as he walked out after the judgment.
Seyi Shay said in her words, “Oh, you have a good talking voice, and it comes out in your singing voice, but your performance, terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer.
While reacting to her judgment, some Twitter users have accused Seyi Shay of her shady comments as some advocate for her removal as a judge in the reality show.
Taking to Twitter, @endi4tim tweeted, “Such comments in some cases can lead to suicide. She shattered his hope. Seyi Shay should be removed as a judge from the #Nigeria idol.”
In another tweet, @Elvis_Vitalis1 tweeted, “Seyi Shay’s choice of words is worse than that boy’s performance.”
@realpault also tweet that, “How I wish that the young man will become successful and the video of Seyi Shay spewing nonsense on him will resurface. It will happen.”
@jaiyeoflagos tweeted, “It speaks of who Seyi Shay is, in no manner should she alter words of that magnitude to the boy. Some individuals don’t know communication skills and this is on whoever brought her on board.”
Meanwhile, some users also believed that the judge had passed the right judgment, according to @iam_m_mujeeb tweet, “Seyi Shay might sound harsh but she said the truth and if he(singer) wants to sing he has a lot to learn.”
@Anyisabali also tweet that, “Seyi Shay did no wrong. She was straight and real. She did great by acknowledging his a for music, but suggested areas he can thrive besides singing. Good judgment.”
