Rape Allegations: Lagos Police Question Pastor Chris Okafor

The Lagos State Police Command has begun an investigation into allegations of rape and other sexual offences involving Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, following complaints submitted to the police.

As part of the inquiry, the police have invited the cleric to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, on Monday, 5 January 2026, at 10:00 a.m., to provide his account in connection with the allegations, which authorities say are serious and under active review.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the SCID to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation. The statement confirmed that the invitation has been formally communicated to Pastor Okafor through his legal representative.

Police sources indicate that the investigation followed reports and complaints alleging sexual misconduct, including multiple rape allegations. While the details of the complaints have not been made public, the police said the nature of the allegations required the involvement of the SCID, which handles serious and complex criminal cases in the state.

Authorities emphasised that the investigation remains at a preliminary stage and that no conclusions have been reached. The police noted that the inquiry is intended to establish facts, assess available evidence, and determine the appropriate legal steps, if any.

The Lagos State Police Command stated that measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and protection of alleged victims and potential witnesses. Individuals who believe they have relevant information or who may have been affected by the alleged incidents have been encouraged to report to the SCID, Panti.

The command assured that the identities of complainants will be treated with strict confidentiality. It also called on members of the public with credible information or evidence that may assist the investigation to come forward without fear of intimidation.

The police reiterated their commitment to due process, public order, and the rule of law. They stressed that all allegations of criminal conduct are subject to investigation, irrespective of the status or position of those involved.

The command added that the outcome of the investigation will be determined strictly by evidence and in accordance with the law.
