Buckingham Palace has today April 9, announced the death of Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, husband to Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the Palace in a statement, stated that Prince Philip passed away peacefully this morning in Windsor Castle.
The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”
The Palace also revealed that he died at 99 years, stating that a further announcement will be made in due course.
However, Prince Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families. He was born in Greece, but his family was exiled from the country when he was an infant.
Phillip, after being educated in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, joined the British Royal Navy in 1939, aged 18. From July 1939, he began corresponding with the thirteen-year-old Princess Elizabeth, whom he had first met in 1934.
During the Second World War, he served with distinction in the Mediterranean and Pacific Fleets. After the war, Philip was granted permission by George VI to marry Elizabeth. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July 1947.
Prince Philip and Elizabeth had four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
