In a significant move to reshape how Nigeria supports good causes and marginalized communities, President Bola Tinubu introduced a comprehensive four-year plan for the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) on Monday. The plan, announced at an event in the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall in Abuja, seeks to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the NLTF’s contributions to social and economic development.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of the NLTF’s new direction. The plan, he explained, aligns with his administration’s focus on economic growth, food security, enhanced social services, and strengthened community support.
“The National Lottery Trust Fund is an important tool for reaching communities in need,” Senator Akume stated on behalf of the President. “Through this initiative, the government aims to provide much-needed support to vulnerable Nigerians, ensuring that resources reach the communities that need them most.”
Executive Secretary of the NLTF, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his efforts to modernize the lottery sector, specifically noting the Revenue Assurance Platform (RAP). This new platform is expected to enhance transparency and increase revenue for initiatives that serve the public good.
“I am grateful to President Tinubu for allowing me to lead this mission to reshape the NLTF,” Adeyanju said. “The four-year plan we are unveiling today reflects our commitment to delivering projects that impact communities and bring meaningful change across Nigeria. Our goal is to align closely with the administration’s vision for sustainable development.”
Since its establishment in 2005, the NLTF has carried out over 306 projects nationwide, benefitting numerous communities. With this strategic plan, the NLTF intends to deepen its reach, focusing on sectors and areas where interventions can make a significant difference.
Other dignitaries, including Senator Victor Umeh representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, praised the NLTF’s leadership. Umeh noted that the new plan holds great promise for helping the NLTF achieve its goals under the administration’s vision.
House of Representatives Chairman on Inter-governmental Affairs and Special Duties, Hon. Canice Moore, also pledged his support for the NLTF’s mission and the fresh leadership under Adeyanju. Additionally, Minister of Special Duties Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo emphasized that the strategic document is crafted to deliver good causes nationwide, while Dr. Maryam Keshinro, Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, reinforced the document’s focus on meaningful intervention.
The event attracted prominent figures such as Minister of Youth Development Comrade Ayodele Olawande, Coordinating Minister for Health & Social Welfare Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Executive Secretaries from the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, and other key officials dedicated to supporting communities across Nigeria.
