Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has told a visiting special envoy from Qatar that Nigeria is ready to welcome foreign investors and grow stronger by working with countries like Qatar.
During a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu spoke with Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, who came on behalf of the Amir (leader) of Qatar. The president said his government has been making tough decisions to help Nigeria’s economy grow in a better and lasting way.
“We are fixing our tax system to make Nigeria a better place for businesses from around the world,” Tinubu said. “These changes have not been easy, but they are important. We are beginning to see good results.”
President Tinubu told the Qatari envoy that Nigeria is open for investment and has the potential to be a great partner. “You won’t find a better partner than Nigeria,” he said. “You’ve done well with technology and education in Qatar. Now, let’s do more together to fight poverty here in Nigeria.”
He said both countries can work together in areas like farming and growing the economy, and promised that the agreements made during his visit to Qatar in 2024 will be put into action.
To make this happen quickly, he asked three ministers—Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Budget and Economic Planning), Mohammed Idris (Information), and Yusuf Maitama Tuggar (Foreign Affairs)—to work together and follow up on the projects.
President Tinubu also thanked the Qatari envoy and praised the friendship between the two countries. “I take Qatar seriously,” he said. “We want to grow our relationship even more.”
He also thanked Qatar for working hard to bring peace to the world. “You are helping both with development and peace. Just like you, we are dealing with problems like terrorism and helping our neighbours.”
In response, Dr. Al-Khulaifi said the Amir of Qatar wants Nigeria to be a key partner in Africa. He announced that a group of top Qatari business leaders will soon visit Nigeria to look at new opportunities, especially in farming, food supply, and chemicals used in industries (called petrochemicals).
“We are proud of how strong our relationship with Nigeria has become,” Dr. Al-Khulaifi said. “It’s not just about governments talking—our people are working together too.”
He added, “Qatar is excited to do more with Nigeria. We already have companies that want to invest here.”
This meeting shows that Nigeria is working hard to grow its economy, welcome new businesses, and build strong friendships with other countries like Qatar.
