BENIN CITY – Former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday declared that Nigeria’s political landscape is plagued by betrayal and dishonesty.
Dr. Jonathan made the remark in Benin City during the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former Edo State governors Chief Lucky Igbinedion, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and former Gombe State governor, Dr. Ibrahim Dakwambo, among others.
Paying glowing tribute to Oghiadomhe, Jonathan described him as one of his most loyal allies.
“I became president, and even after leaving office, one of the few friends who can give up their necks for me is Mike,” Jonathan said. “Politics in the Nigerian context is often about betrayals. It is difficult to find someone who will say the same thing in the morning and in the evening. I have witnessed many betrayals, particularly during the 2015 elections. Mike is someone who would take a bullet on my behalf.”
Representing Governor Monday Okpebholo, Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, praised Oghiadomhe for laying a solid foundation as deputy governor, noting that his contributions continue to guide the state’s governance.
Former Governor Lucky Igbinedion recalled the trust he reposed in Oghiadomhe, stating that he never hesitated to hand over the affairs of the state to him whenever he had to travel abroad.
Also speaking, Senator Adams Oshiomhole commended Oghiadomhe’s steadfast loyalty to Jonathan, noting that he always made his position clear in political discussions. He further applauded Oghiadomhe’s wife, Mrs. Louisa Oghiadomhe, for her role as a dependable partner.
