The Delta State Police Command has within the week rescue a 38-year-old lady from the hand of kidnappers and also arrested three suspected cultists with guns in the state.
This was made known to newsmen in a statement by the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Dsp. Bright Edafe, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, it was gathered that on Sunday, June 6, at about 9:45 pm, the Divisional police officer of Orerokpe Division received a timely distress call from an unknown caller that four armed men, suspected to be kidnappers shot sporadically at Biokoro extension and kidnapped one Efe Caroline ‘f’ 38 years.
The Police operatives through quick response, detailed to the area, sighted the hoodlums and gave them a hot chase while also engaged them in a gun battle at Okujorogun Community.
After been overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums abandoned the victim unhurt and flee while a manhunt for the hoodlums is still ongoing.
Also in the statement, it was revealed that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, ordered the State Anti-Cult unit (SACU) Commander, SP Christopher Igbaji to relocate to Ogwashi-uku and bring an end to the cult crisis in the area.
The SACU through an intelligence discovered a house where cultist usually converges, plan on their next move before attacking their fellow cult rivals in Azungu Quarters, Ogwashi-uku.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that on Sunday, June 6, at about 9:30 pm, the SACU commander mobilized and led a combined team of the State anti-cult unit and Special Tactical Squad STS attached to the Delta State Command to stormed the said hideout.
Getting to the hideout, the combined team arrested three suspects namely, Lucky Nwose ‘m’ 23 years, Somto Azubuike ‘m’ 18 years, Omali Maxwell ‘m’ 18 years all suspected to be members of Supreme Vikings Confrantanity aka Aro Bagger.
During the arrest, the Items recovered are one English automatic pump action gun loaded with two live cartridges while the investigation is still ongoing.
Also in another development, it was gathered that on Friday, May 28, at about 9:30 am, the police operatives from the Divisional Quick Response team attached to ‘A’ Division Warri while on a routine patrol at Ugbuangue community suspiciously sighted a young man holding a bag.
The suspect when approached by the team, hurriedly abandoned his bag and took to his heels. After searching the bag, one locally-made cut-to-size double barrel gun was found.
Meanwhile, on suspicion that the suspect might come back to carry his weapon, the team laid an ambush in the bush, and after a short while, the suspect resurfaced with intend to collect the exhibit.
The suspect, Joshua Godwin ‘m’ 28 years was eventually arrested while the investigation is still ongoing.
In a similar case, the Eagle-Net Patrol team while on patrol along Koka Ibusa express on Thursday, May 27, sighted suspicious motorcyclists making calls.
The team intercepted him but after a thorough search was conducted, it was gathered that a locally-made pistol was recovered from the suspect.
The suspect, Solomon Omachonu ‘m’ 27 years of Igbedo community in Nzam Olumbanasa Anambra West Local government of Anambra State was residing at Amusement Park in Koka area of Asaba was arrested.
Items recovered from the suspect include an army color belt and wristwatch with an unregistered motorcycle.
However, the Commissioner of Police has urged members of the public to continue, cooperate, and partner with the police for timely information in combating crimes.
