Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest forty Cultists during initiation

The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of forty suspected cultists who were arrested during initiation while also rescue a kidnapped victim in the state.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP. Bright Edafe, Ag, made these known in a statement on Monday, April 26, in Asaba.

According to the statement, on Friday, April 23, at about 9:30 pm, the Delta State Police Special Anti Cult Unit (SACU) through credible information and intelligence gathering revealed that Aye Confrantanity will be carrying out the initiation of a new member at Ubulu-Unor bush in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

With quick response, the Commander of SACU, SP Christopher Igbaji immediately mobilized SACU operatives to the scene and arrest forty (40) male suspected cultists.

It was gathered that when the Police got to the venue of the initiation, some armed men who claimed to be Ubulu-Unor vigilante were seen keeping watch and aiding the cultists to carry out their initiation, as they were also arrested.

While still under investigation, the Items recovered include one Revolver pistol, eleven live ammunition, one locally made single barrel gun, one pump action, eight vehicles, and one Mitsubishi pickup with the inscription of Ubulu-Unor vigilante.

Also, on Saturday, April 24, 2021, the DPO of ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T. Y Mahmud, receive a distress call at about 10:00 from a lady who alleged that on Friday, April 23, 2021, while with her boyfriend, Peter Okologo ‘m’ age 26 years, resident of Nigercat, Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area, one Ejiri John ‘m’ age 25 years from Ogbori Community in Warri, led a group of armed men, some of them were alleged to be on military uniforms with guns and other weapons, stormed their house and whisk her boyfriend (Peter Okologo) away to an unknown destination after firing some gunshots.

Immediately, the DPO based on the report quickly swung into action, mobilized the rapid response team from the Division, and arrest one Kingsley Omagbemi m’ age 25 years who accompanied the kidnappers to the victim’s house where he was kidnapped.

Meanwhile, the police visited the scene, recovered three empty shells, and after thorough investigation and interrogation, the two suspects led the police team to Sapele where the DPO Sapele Division joined forces with men from the ‘A’ Division Warri and one David Isaac Mojo ‘m’ age 32 years of No.12 Akintola street Sapele was arrested at the kidnapper’s den.

It was gathered that David Mojo has already demanded one million naira as ransom and he was arrested when he came out to collect the said Ransom while one Alison ‘m’ surname unknown escape with a black Toyota Camry registration number unknown.

The kidnapped victim, however, was rescued by the police while the suspects arrested were kept in custody as the investigation is still ongoing to arrest the other fleeing members of the gang.

However, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, while working on the mandate given to him by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, FDC, has urged all officers of the command to keep the tempo, stating that, if the tempo can be sustained, Delta State will be crime-free.

The CP also advises members of the public, Vigilantes, anti-cult, and any other volunteers to resist the urge to be used by miscreants to fulfill their evil motives, instead, they should work with the police to give useful and timely information that will aid their arrest and bring peace and security to the state.
