An herbalist residing in the Referefu area of Oja-Odan in Ogun State has been arrested for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old girl.
The suspect identified as Samson Ogundele was arrested following a complaint filed by the victim at Oja odan divisional headquarters.
It was gathered that the victim came to the house of the herbalist for consultation when the incident happened.
The victim a hairdressing apprentice reported that a sum of one thousand naira got missing in their shop which made all the nine apprentices in the shop consult the herbalist to know who stole the money amongst them.
On getting to the herbalist, he started calling them into a room one after the other after collecting seven hundred from them.
Also in the report, the victim said the first and second persons who entered the room came out, but when it was her turn, she entered and the herbalist tried to rape her.
Upon her complaint, the DPO Oja odan division, CSP Gabriel Ikechukwu, told his operatives to go after the suspect and he was arrested.
It was while investigating him that one of the girls who are 17 years old confessed that the herbalist had already had carnal knowledge of her when she met him in the consulting room. She stated further that the herbalist threatened that she will die if she inform anybody.
Immediately after the report, the victim was taken to Oja Odan General Hospital where the Doctor on duty confirmed that the girl has been defiled.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident stating that the herbalist himself has confessed to being guilty of the crime.
He also said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
