Petrol Tanker Carrying 45,000 Litres of Fuel Catches Fire in Ibadan

Ibadan, Nigeria – A petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of fuel caught fire on Sunday morning in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

According to reports, the tanker lost control and veered off the road into a bush at Onipe Village, near Idi Ayunre, along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan Road. Moments later, it caught fire.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured.

“The fire was reported at exactly 8:05 AM on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Our firefighters, led by ACFS Olubunmi, rushed to the scene immediately. On arrival, we saw that the tanker had swerved off the road and caught fire,” Akinyinka explained.

He added that the firefighters used special foam chemicals to put out the flames. Though the tanker was damaged, no lives were lost.

Police officers from Idi Ayunre Division and members of the Agbekoya group were also present to maintain security.

Authorities have urged drivers to be extra careful on the road to prevent such accidents in the future.
