Peter Obi Takes Break From Public Duties on Doctor’s Advice

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will step back briefly from public and official activities to focus on his health.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Obi said the decision followed medical advice after he began to feel unwell while attending engagements in Enugu.

“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest,” he explained.

Obi noted that, as a result, he would not be able to attend several activities scheduled both within and outside Nigeria this weekend. He apologised to those who might be inconvenienced by his absence and appealed for understanding.

Before making the health-related announcement, Obi highlighted some of his recent engagements. On Friday, he attended a tourism event in Enugu before travelling to Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, which is being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria.

During the visit, he made a ₦10 million contribution to support the Diocese’s acquisition and revitalisation of the hospital. He praised the Diocese’s plans to transform the facility into a comprehensive health complex that will include a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.

“Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make,” Obi said, adding that faith-based organisations have consistently shown they can deliver quality healthcare when properly supported.

After the hospital visit, Obi proceeded to Owerri to attend a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

Despite his active schedule, Obi stressed that his health must remain a priority and confirmed that he would follow medical guidance before resuming full activities.
