Obeti, Ukwuani LGA — April 11, 2025 Chief Engr. Dele Omenogor, a respected leader from Amai Kingdom in Delta State, has told a surprising story about how the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) tried to trick its people before the 2023 elections.
Chief Omenogor said this during an event in Obeti, where Senator Ned Nwoko welcomed Leo Esegbua and his supporters into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He explained that he had been a loyal member of PDP for many years. He was a big leader in Ward 6, Amai, and even helped the party in the whole Ukwuani Local Government Area and Delta State.
“I didn’t join PDP for money or contracts,” he said. “I joined because I wanted Amai to have good roads, clean water, and electricity. I even used my own money to support the party, but they gave nothing back. They only developed towns like Obiaruku and Umutu, and forgot Amai.”
In 2023, just before the election, he spoke at a big meeting in the office of Kingsley Emu, who was the Commissioner for Economic Planning at that time. He asked an important question:
“What can I use to campaign in Amai? We have no roads, no market, and no light.”
He also remembered helping with Governor Okowa’s campaign in Obiaruku, where he was made the chairman of the event. Still, Amai got no help.
Then, something strange happened.
Just a few days before the 2023 election, some PDP leaders, including Chief Fidelis Tilije, and Hon. Ochor Ochor, brought old bulldozers into Amai. They acted like they were starting a road construction on the Amai-Aragba Road.
But it wasn’t real.
“There was no signboard, no contractor name, no details. I asked questions, but no one could answer. It was all a lie,” Chief Omenogor said. “The bulldozers were even working in front of Mr. Tilije’s house — just to fool the people and make them vote for PDP.”
He said after he attended another meeting on March 8, 2023, where money was being planned for what he called “mosquito campaigning” (meaning quick, fake campaign), he had had enough.
That same night, he wrote a resignation letter, leaving PDP for good.
On March 9, 2023, he joined APC. Many people in Amai followed him, and because of this, APC won Ward 6 in Amai during the election.
When asked if APC will do better, he said that even though APC didn’t win the state election, their candidate had promised to fix the Amai-Aragba Road if elected. He still believes APC will perform better.
“PDP is full of tricks,” he said. “They say one thing and do another. APC is different. We don’t deceive people.”
Finally, he gave a strong message to the people of Ndokwa Nation. He used an example that many people found interesting: “You can’t deceive a prostitute twice. The first time, she may listen to you. But if you break your promise, she won’t fall for it again.”
He added: “PDP has ruled Ukwuani, Ndokwa East, and Ndokwa West for 24 years. What have we gained? Nothing. In 2027, let’s vote for APC at the state level so we too can enjoy the good things from the government.”
