PDP Rift Deepens: Senator Nwoko Questions Governor Oborevwori’s Leadership and Financial Excuses

In a growing rift within the Delta State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), tensions have emerged between Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The conflict centers around the alleged neglect of Delta North, with Senator Nwoko accusing the governor of failing to prioritize key development projects in the region.

During a recent visit to General Mike Ndubisi (rtd), President-General of Ndokwa Neku, a video of which has since gone viral, Senator Nwoko criticized Governor Oborevwori’s stance on the Okpai Power Plant project. The senator alleged that despite the state’s substantial federal allocation, the governor has declined to fund the step-down of the power plant, citing financial constraints due to debts inherited from former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

In the video, Senator Nwoko expressed frustration at the governor’s claims that the state is financially constrained, pointing out that Delta receives significant federal allocation—reportedly as much as the combined allocation of the five South-East states. Nwoko questioned why funds were available for major infrastructure projects in Warri and Osubi, while Delta North has been neglected, particularly regarding the Okpai project.

The senator further revealed that he had offered alternative solutions to the governor, including securing international financing for the power plant, with no cost to the state government. He also mentioned other projects in Delta North, such as the Ogwashi Uku Dam, that have remained stalled.

Senator Nwoko’s remarks underscore growing dissatisfaction within the Delta North PDP, raising concerns about regional imbalances in development projects under the current administration. His direct challenge to Governor Oborevwori highlights a deepening divide within the party, potentially signaling broader political implications as both leaders navigate these disagreements in the public eye.
