The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially begun efforts to rebuild and strengthen its structure in Aniocha North, starting at the grassroots level. This follows a key meeting by concerned PDP stakeholders in the local government area on Friday, June 20, aimed at reviving the party after recent setbacks.
As part of the plan, PDP members in Ward 2, Onicha-Ugbo took the lead by holding their first official ward meeting on Saturday. The gathering, hosted at the residence of respected PDP leader Prof. Sylvester Monye, attracted over 200 party supporters — a strong show of commitment to keeping the party alive.
In his remarks, Prof. Monye made it clear that despite recent challenges, PDP is still very much alive in Delta State.
“The purpose of today’s meeting is to let everyone know that PDP is not dead in Aniocha North or Delta State. No force can destroy PDP here. The party is in our DNA,” he said, receiving loud applause.
Prof. Monye also addressed the shock that came with the recent defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key leaders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It was unexpected and not part of the plan. It took us some time to recover,” he admitted. “But we are back, stronger, and ready to rebuild from the bottom up.”
Party members at the meeting reaffirmed their total loyalty to the PDP, stating clearly that they had not decamped like others and remain with the party “in body and soul.”
They also dismissed rumors that the PDP had collapsed in Delta State, calling such claims false and misleading.
“We are still here. PDP is still standing, and we’re ready to fight for its future,” said one enthusiastic member.
This Onicha-Ugbo meeting marks the first ward-level action following the resolution to revive the PDP across Aniocha North through community sensitization and the setup of caretaker committees in each ward and LGA.
More wards are expected to follow in the coming days, as party members believe that rebuilding must begin from the grassroots level.
“What we’re doing locally mirrors what’s needed nationally,” Prof. Monye added. “This revival must start with the people, and we are ready.”
The Ward 2 meeting in Onicha-Ugbo now stands as a symbol of renewed energy and loyalty, as the PDP begins a new chapter of grassroots mobilization to reclaim its strength in Delta State.
