The Chairman, Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Sir Monday Onyeme, has reiterated its commitment to building the capacity of the workforce for greater efficiency and effectiveness in the discharge of their duties.
He disclosed this in an address he delivered at the opening ceremony of the Joint Tax Board, JTB, final course for chief inspectors of taxes which was held at the conference hall of the service headquarters in Warri.
Onyeme revealed that the signing into law of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service Law 2020 by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, had made it more imperative to build up the knowledge base of the staff of the service to deliver on the mandate of increasing the internally generated revenue of the state.
The chairman commended the Secretary of the JTB, Madam Aisha-Nana Obomeghie for granting special approval for the course to hold in Delta State, instead of the usual practice of holding it at the JTB training school, Abuja,
He enjoined participants not to see the course as “just about acquiring a certificate, but an opportunity to gain knowledge” and impact positively on the revenue generation drive of the state government.
On her part, the Joint Tax Board Secretary, Madam Obomeghie, who declared the training programme opened, stated that capacity building programmes were designed to address gaps in personnel’s knowledge base.
According to her, the JTB Inspector of Tax Courses was one of the fundamental ways of filling gaps and equip revenue administrators nationwide with knowledge on the multiple facets of tax administration.
Obomeghie went further to emphasize that the 10 weeks training programme would introduce participants to new and better ways of managing revenue-generating processes and procedures required for the optimal harnessing of the inherent revenue potentials in their jurisdictions.
