On Tuesday, April 20, the Delta State Government revealed that it wasn’t aware that the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli has died.
The Government through the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made this revelation to newsmen immediately after the State Executive meeting that was presided by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in Asaba.
According to the Commissioner while speaking to journalists stated that, the Delta State Government has not been informed that the Olu of Warri kingdom has passed away. He said, for us, we are not aware that the Olu has died.
The Commissioner also stated that “Each community in Delta State has its own laid down rules/tradition and ruling houses; so Itsekeri will not be different.”
Also, the Commissioner maintains that “To us, there’s no disagreement because we were not enlightened. The issue of the Olu of Warri is the same thing to all the communities.
Speaking further, Aniagwu mentioned that, “When a king dies, the community will write to the government, which will do all that is necessary for a smooth transition.”
He said, “It is not entirely the issue of once the father dies, the son takes over.”
Adding that, the council approved the amendment of the successor to the throne of the Odion-Ologbo in the Ebrede kingdom, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the State.
The Commissioner also stated, “For anyone to ascend to the throne, he must be a graduate and a male child.
