The People of Olomu clan in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, which was wrecked by the recent flood have expressed happiness as the flood begins to decrease
Mrs Elizabeth Oru, from Oviri-Olomu community, one of the communities that was seriously affected by the flood, said she was happy that the flood was already subsiding adding that the suffering they went through for the period that the flood lasted could be likened to “hell fire” and not something one should experience again in life.
The elderly woman who spoke in the Urhobo language said, “My son, we passed through hell for the period that the flood lasted. I am happy that the flood is already going.
Mrs Elizabeth who lamented that all her farmland and most of her household property were lost to the flood, appealed to the officials of Ughelli South Local Government Council to equitably and conscientiously distribute the relief packages brought by the Delta State Government.
Also reacting, a taxi driver who shuttles between Ughelli, Olomu clan and Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area, described the flood as destructive and dehumanizing but thanked God the situation was already getting better.
The driver who spoke on the condition of anonymity predicted that there could be danger of hunger in the nearest months because, according to him, most cassava farm land, which is the major means of livelihood, had been destroyed by the flood.
It was gathered that Kiagbodo and other communities in Olomu Kingdom had alot of destruction caused by the flood. Some persons who were initially displaced and forced to pack out of their houses by the flood were gradually returning back while others were yet to return.
