Oborevwori Praises APC Convention, Says Defection Benefiting Delta

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the National Elective Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a sign of the party’s growing strength and wider national acceptance.

Speaking to journalists at the convention held at Eagle Square in Abuja on Friday night, the governor said his decision to join the APC in April 2025 was already producing positive results for Delta State.

In a statement made available on Saturday, Oborevwori explained that his defection to the ruling party was aimed at aligning the state with the Federal Government. According to him, this move has improved access to resources and strengthened governance in the state.

“I’m happy to be here today. That bold decision we took on April 28, 2025, is manifesting today,” he said. “I was the first governor after the 2023 election to move into APC. We did that because we wanted to connect with the centre, and now we have connected.”

He added that other governors have since followed a similar path, noting that the APC now controls a majority of states in the country.

Oborevwori also pointed to improved revenue allocation to states as a major benefit, saying it has helped state governments meet key responsibilities such as salary payments and project execution.

“Before now, the money coming to the states was not much, and paying salaries was difficult. These days, we can pay salaries and contractors. A lot of things are working for us,” he said.

While acknowledging the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, the governor expressed confidence in the policies of President Bola Tinubu, describing them as effective but gradual in impact.

“We know the sufferings of Nigerians, but the policies are yielding results. It is a gradual process,” he said.

He further noted that the growing number of governors joining the APC reflects confidence in the Federal Government. According to him, the party now has 31 governors, a figure he described as unprecedented since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

“The crowd here today shows that the President is focused and bold. We believe Nigerians will reward him by re-electing him in 2027,” he added.

On his administration’s performance, Oborevwori said his government has made progress in key sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.

He also highlighted improvements in oil production in Delta State, noting that the absence of recent attacks on oil facilities has led to increased output.

“Delta State remains number one in oil production, and we are going to do more for our people,” he said.

The governor called on residents of the state to continue supporting both his administration and the Federal Government, assuring them of continued efforts to improve their welfare.
