Obidient Movement Joins ADC | What This Means for Nigeria’s 2027 Elections

Asaba, Delta State — The Obidient Movement in Delta State has officially declared its alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a historic political gathering held in Asaba.

The highlight of the event was the formal declaration of the Obidient Movement into the ADC, which was officially announced by the State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Hon. Favour Emerure, marking a new phase of political collaboration aimed at promoting good governance and structured political participation in Nigeria.

The ceremony attracted national and state leaders of the ADC, members of the Obidient Movement, youth representatives, women leaders, and supporters from across Nigeria and the diaspora. Speakers described the gathering as more than a political alliance, calling it the beginning of a new political era built on unity, discipline, integrity, and people-centered leadership.

Welcoming participants, ADC Delta State Chairman, Engr. Okolie C. Austine, said the integration of the Obidient Movement signaled a new chapter in Delta State politics. He described the movement as a powerful force that has reshaped political consciousness and strengthened demands for accountability and responsible governance.

He noted that members of the Obidient Movement were being welcomed not as guests but as full stakeholders in building a credible and progressive political party capable of providing a new direction for Delta State and Nigeria.

In his declaration speech, Hon. Favour Emerure emphasized that the Obidient Movement remains an organic, people-driven initiative rooted in civic engagement and youth participation.

He said the movement’s strength lies in its grassroots nature, explaining that members demonstrate commitment through personal sacrifices — including supporters traveling long distances at their own expense, with some flying in from abroad just to participate in activities.

According to him, the movement has only one mission: bringing good governance to Nigerians through responsible leadership and structured political engagement. He stressed that the declaration was not a surrender of the movement’s identity but a strategic step toward institutional political participation through the ADC.

Emerure explained that members of the movement had been part of earlier coalition processes and were now formally affirming their position within the party structure. He described the Obidient Movement as a growing force that continues to expand, saying the movement is multiplying rather than fading.

National/Global Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, described the declaration as a major milestone, reaffirming the movement’s commitment to credibility, accountability, and good governance. He emphasized that the focus remains on building a Nigeria that serves its citizens rather than pursuing personal political interests.

ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, praised the Obidient Movement as one of the most influential civic movements in Nigeria’s recent political history, particularly for mobilizing young people and promoting political awareness. He encouraged continued collaboration between both groups to strengthen youth participation and democratic engagement.

ADC National Women Leader, Hon. Naomi Lasara Abel, welcomed members into the party and emphasized unity and collective action. She praised the Obidient Movement for reshaping political narratives and encouraged women across Nigeria to remain active participants in leadership and governance.

She assured women of continued support within the party and called for greater inclusion in decision-making processes.

ADC National Chief Whip, Elder Igbinoba Festus, stressed the importance of following party structures and constitutional processes during the integration. He encouraged new members to register formally at ward and local levels to ensure proper inclusion in party operations.

He also recalled earlier efforts to unite reform-minded political actors before previous elections, noting that the current alliance builds on long-standing cooperation.

Professor Pat Utomi and Mr. Peter Obi also addressed the gathering, calling for unity, ethical leadership, and a renewed national vision focused on competence, accountability, and economic productivity.

Throughout the event, speakers emphasized that the integration represents a strategic partnership aimed at transforming civic activism into structured political participation capable of influencing governance.

Leaders expressed confidence that the alliance would strengthen ADC’s grassroots presence, expand youth and women participation, and create a united platform for political change in Delta State and beyond.

Participants concluded the ceremony with a collective call for unity, democratic engagement, and continued efforts toward building a more inclusive and accountable Nigeria.
