Obi of Ogwashi Uku Accused of Illegal Land Grabbing by Ubulu Uku Onishe

Ubulu Uku, Delta State, December 16, 2024 – Chief Emma Ejiofor, PhD, the Onishe of Ubulu Uku, has issued a firm warning against illegal land-grabbing activities on Ubulu Uku farmlands, particularly addressing actions allegedly linked to the Obi of Ogwashi Uku. The dispute centers around the Aniagbala farmland, a vital area deeply rooted in the community’s heritage.

Chief Ejiofor condemned the alleged encroachments as a flagrant violation of the traditional land ownership practices that have been preserved by the Ubulu Uku community for generations. Aniagbala, a prominent section of the town, is home to farmland that has been cultivated and maintained by families and kindreds for over three decades, with no historical ties to external claims.

“The claims made by the Obi of Ogwashi Uku are unfounded and unacceptable,” Chief Ejiofor asserted. “Any attempt to appropriate this land disregards our history and traditions and will be met with strong resistance.”

He further described these actions as an affront to the cultural heritage of Ubulu Uku, emphasizing the community’s readiness to protect its rights through legal and collective means.

“These acts of land-grabbing are a direct attack on our identity and legacy,” Chief Ejiofor stated. “Ubulu Uku will deploy all available mechanisms, including legal avenues, to safeguard our farmlands. Let it be clear—any unauthorized claims will face decisive action.”

While addressing the Obi of Ogwashi Uku specifically, Chief Ejiofor extended his caution to all potential land-grabbers. He reaffirmed the community’s unity in defending its land and traditions against external interference.

“This warning is not exclusive to the Obi of Ogwashi Uku,” Chief Ejiofor declared. “It is directed at anyone with designs on Ubulu Uku farmlands. An injustice to one family here is an injustice to us all, and we will respond collectively and resolutely.”

Chief Ejiofor also criticized the underlying motives behind the disputes, attributing them to baseless claims and title struggles. He called for respect for the community’s land rights and urged all parties involved to abandon such schemes.

The Onishe’s statement reflects Ubulu Uku’s unwavering commitment to preserving its cultural heritage, protecting its farmlands, and ensuring that traditional land ownership systems remain intact for future generations.
