The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare II, has approved the suspension of the presiding priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao.
In what appears like a royal judgment, the Priest was suspended for alleged unauthorised ministration with the ancient long tradition of Benin City.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary, Benin Traditional Council (BTC), Frank Irabor, and was seen by goldennationblog.com
According to reports, the decision was jointly taken by the traditional head of the church, HRM Oba Ewuare the second, joint elders committee, and top palace chiefs after Okao was found guilty of violating the long-standing rules of the church.
Irabor said the removal of the former top priest of the church would restore sanity and lasting peace to the foremost Benin national church.
“The decision is expected to bring lasting peace, sanity, and tranquility to the holy spiritual environment that is imperative in the Holy Aruosa Cathedral of Benin, which has hitherto been absent in the Holy Aruosa because of the non-compliance with traditions and customs by Harrison Okao over several years,” Irabor said.
The statement further ordered Okao to hand over the church property in his possession as the Ohenosa to the head Mr. Esere.
Okao was also warned to stop any financial transaction within the cathedral.
