NYSC to partner consulting group to improve rice production

In line with the Federal Government agenda on food security, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has declared its willingness to boost value-chain rice and water production.

This was disclosed by the Director-General, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim in a courtesy visit by the Executive Chairman of Hudson Consulting Group, Mr. Tom Iseghohi.

He said that Nigeria is blessed with youths who are endowed with skills that should be tapped for self-empowerment and socio-economic development of the country.

Brigadier Ibrahim added that the Scheme has partnered with some Federal Government agencies to leverage agriculture to generate more revenue for the government.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman, Hudson Consulting Group, Mr. Tom Iseghohi praised General Ibrahim for his innovation and transformation of the Scheme since he assumed office as NYSC DG.

He said the partnership would provide a world-class branded rice NYSC, and would greatly explore the existing farms of the Scheme located in some States the country and many more.

Iseghohi asserted confidence in the ability of the partnership to feed the nation, and even go beyond the boundaries of Nigeria to earn the country the much needed foreign exchange.

He decried the supply chain of rice production in the country adding that there was the need to create a proper supply chain from production, harvesting, processing to consumption.

The Chairman noted that the rate of rice consumption in the country is more than the rate of production, promising to fill the gap.

He equally promised to regig the NYSC water factory and make it the preferred product in the country which would go a long way in also raising the revenue profile of the Scheme.

It is his earnest expectation that the dividends of the partnership will begin to manifest in less than one year if he gets the buy-in of the Scheme.

The DG referred the Chief Executive to the NYSC Ventures Department so as to work the modalities for the partnership to facilitate the signing of an MoU with the Scheme.
