NUJ Delta visits HOS, brings case for new Departments for information Ministry

Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has emphasized the need for the Head of Service of Delta State to grant the request of the Ministry of Information to create two more departments.

The state’s information ministry had requested the creation of the Department of New Media and the Department of Field Information.

Delta NUJ Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu during a visit to the HOS, appealed to him to use his office to ensure that the two departments were added to the Ministry of Information.

He explained that the importance of the departments cannot be overemphasized based on the realities of the time, adding that it would bring about efficiency and effectiveness for service delivery in the state.

The chairman who said that the Ministry of Information is key to the effective publicity of government’s policies and programmes noted that the two departments will enhance proper information management thereby bringing good governance to the state.

Comrade Ikeogwu while commending the HOS for his distinct achievements since assuming office, maintained that with his (HOS) experienced career in civil service, governance would always be administered with ease.

Responding, the HOS, Mr. Reginald Bayoko thanked the NUJ State Executive for visiting, saying it would be out of place for any Government not to take seriously criticisms and suggestions of NUJ as a critical stakeholder in society.

The HOS acknowledged the receipt of a letter from the Ministry of Information requesting for the two aforementioned departments to be created, affirming the matter was being looked into and that the needful definitely would be done.

Bayoko congratulated the Executive for their victory at the State Council election, stressing that such contest was necessary to bring out the best in leadership.

He further told the Union to ensure practitioners are put in check within the confines and ethics of the journalism profession, especially as it pertains to providing chances to all parties in their reports.
