The Delta State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, led by Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku has revealed plans to make this year’s May Day celebrations the best in history after considering to present awards of merits to some deserving veteran Labour Leaders who have paid their dues in the labor movement.
This decision was made known at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Chairman on Wednesday, April 28, at the Labour House, Asaba.
According to the decisions, this year’s May Day Celebration will hold on May 1, 2021, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, and the celebration would commence at 10 am.
The theme for this year’s May Day celebration is “Covid-19 Pandemic, Social and Economic Crisis, Challenges for Decent Jobs, Social Protection and People’s Welfare.”
The Chairman, Ofobruku while speaking informed members that this year’s celebration would feature lectures on the unity of labor leaders and their members, also with Labour to Government relationship and understanding.
Ofobruku mentioned that there will be a sideshow by garri processing company – Samvita, who during the event would create awareness on its product through cooking that would be served to interested members free.
Also, he urges all SEC-in-Session to mobilize their Union members to seat before the arrival of the Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, stating that the affiliate Union with the highest mobilization would win a trophy along with monetary attachment as a way of encouraging participation in labour matters.
However, the Chairman also noted that all Covid-19 protocols are expected to be observed during the celebration.
