The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has a very important message for everyone in Anambra State—and even across Nigeria: Do not give your National Identification Number (NIN) to anyone you don’t trust or to people asking for it in exchange for money!
Some people have been pretending to work with the government and asking people for their NINs, promising to give them money. But NIMC says this is illegal, and those doing it are breaking Nigerian laws like the NIMC Act, the Data Protection Act, and the Cyber Crime Act.
As soon as NIMC found out, they worked with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to catch the people behind this. They were arrested and are now being questioned. If found guilty, they will face punishment under the law.
NIMC is reminding everyone that:
- You should never give out your NIN for money.
- Only authorized people or platforms can ask for your NIN—and only for things like school, banking, or government services.
- If someone you don’t trust asks for your NIN, say no! And tell an adult or report it immediately.
If you see anyone suspiciously collecting NINs, you should report it to NIMC through:

The Commission also thanked the police and other security agencies for helping protect people’s identities and supporting the NIN enrolment project.
