Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s leadership, saying politicians are focusing on unnecessary drama instead of solving real problems.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, March 2, 2025, Obi criticized the government for engaging in political scandals while the country faces severe poverty, hunger, insecurity, and a failing education system.
He pointed out that Nigeria has millions of out-of-school children, rising food shortages, and high levels of crime, yet political discussions are centred on budget scandals, judicial rulings, and power struggles instead of solutions.
Obi also raised concerns about recent events in Rivers State and the National Assembly, saying they reflect a larger problem with leadership in the country. He condemned politicians who switch parties just to gain power, calling it a betrayal of the people’s trust.
He urged leaders across all three arms of government—the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary—to focus on stabilizing the country and addressing pressing issues rather than engaging in controversy and political games.
“Nigeria cannot afford to be governed like a reality TV show while millions suffer,” Obi said. “We need leaders who prioritize education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, not those who chase power for personal gain.”
His statement serves as a call for urgent action to restore trust in Nigeria’s leadership and bring meaningful change to the country.
