The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has warned the public about fake websites and individuals pretending to sell train tickets online. These fraudsters have been collecting money from unsuspecting passengers using personal bank accounts — which the NRC says is both illegal and risky.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, said the corporation is not connected to any of these fraudulent platforms and anyone who pays through such channels is doing so at their own risk.
“Passengers are strongly advised not to pay into any personal or unverified accounts for train bookings,” the statement reads. “These platforms are not affiliated with the Corporation.”
Official NRC Train Booking Sites
To help passengers stay safe, the NRC listed the only authorized websites for booking train tickets online:
- Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS): https://nrc-fane.ng
- Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS): https://nrc.tps.ng
- Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS): https://nrc.gsds.ng
For more information or to verify any booking link, passengers are encouraged to visit the NRC’s official website: www.nrc.gov.ng, or speak directly to the customer service centres.
Action Against Scammers
Unyimadu also confirmed that the NRC is now working with security agencies to investigate and arrest those involved in the scam.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our esteemed passengers,” he said.
What You Should Know
If you’re planning to travel by train in Nigeria, always double-check where you’re buying your ticket. Don’t trust random websites or people asking you to send money to personal accounts — it’s likely a scam. Stick to the official NRC platforms, and if in doubt, call customer support before making any payment.
