Inspector Patrick, a Nigerian police officer, has shared a sad and painful story about what happened to him in Anambra State. He says he was wrongly accused, beaten, and kept in jail for 11 months without doing anything wrong.
Patrick was travelling home to see his wife and six children when he was stopped by a security group called Ebubeagu in Ihiala. Unknown to him, there had been an attack in the area, and the security officers suspected him. Even though he showed his police ID card, they didn’t believe him. Instead, they tied him up, hurt him with knives, and took him to the police station.
For many months, Patrick was moved from one police station to another, suffering mistreatment and neglect. He was locked up in a cell in Awka for nearly a year. Other police officers in jail with him were accused of being part of a group called IPOB, but Patrick says he was innocent.
Even after he was freed, Patrick faced more troubles. The police refused to pay him for 20 months of work, and his health got worse because of an infection he got while in jail. His family also struggled, and one of his children became very sick.
Now, Patrick is begging the police and the government to help him. He wants justice for what happened to him and hopes to receive the money he is owed. His story shows the problems faced by many police officers in Nigeria and the need for fairness in the system.
