Nigerian Passport Fees Doubled, New Rates Begin September 2025

ABUJA – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a major increase in the cost of Nigerian standard passports, with the new charges set to take effect from September 1, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Service’s spokesperson, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, said the revised prices will only affect passports applied for within Nigeria.

Under the new fee structure:

  • A 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000.
  • A 64-page passport with ten-year validity will cost ₦200,000.

This marks a significant jump from the previous charges. Before now, the 32-page passport cost ₦50,000 (after earlier being raised from ₦35,000), while the 64-page version cost ₦100,000 (up from ₦70,000).

However, Nigerians applying for passports abroad will not be affected by the change. Their fees remain the same at $150 for a 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for a 64-page, ten-year passport.

The Immigration Service explained that the hike is necessary to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport and to keep up with efficient service delivery.

“The Service remains committed to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians,” the statement read.

The announcement has already sparked discussions, as many Nigerians are concerned about how the new rates could make it harder for ordinary citizens to afford international travel documents.
