Nigerian Man Shot Dead After Stabbing Officers At Police Station In Ghana

A Nigerian man identified as Hakimu Friday has reportedly been shot dead after he allegedly stabbed some police officers at the Kwabenya Hills Valley police station in Accra, Ghana.

The incident occurred on Friday, January 28, 2022, after the suspect had threatened to kill three persons and stab a police officer in the head.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by ACP Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs of Ghana Police Service on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

According to ACP Ofori, he noted that on Friday, January 28, 2022, the suspect had threatened to kill three persons. The victims out of fear rushed to the police station to seek refuge but the suspect pursued the victims to the station with a knife.

He noted at the police station, the deceased attacked the station officer and the investigator with a knife and stabbed them multiple times for attempting to protect the victims from the violent attack.

He also noted that the police after sensing that the lives of the station officer, the investigator, and the three other victims were in danger, shot and killed the suspect.

ACP Ofori further noted that the injured police officers are currently responding to treatment at the police hospital while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the police hospital mortuary.

However, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and some POMAB members on Saturday visited the Kwabenya Hills Valley Police Station to encourage the injured officers, while also commended the station officer for protecting the victims at the peril of his life.

The IGP also uses the opportunity to warn people who have a penchant for attacking police stations that they should be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.

The statement partly read “The deceased went straight to the station officer, Inspector Osei Yaw, and stabbed him several times on the head and also caused damage to the office furniture. He later turned his attention on the investigator and punched him on the face injuring him as well,”

“Deceased also caused damage to other office and the glass doors and windows. Police in an attempt to immobilize the now deceased whilst trying to flee, he was fired upon and he died whiles being conveyed to hospital. Body deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue. The Kwabenya District Crime Officer has visited the scene to assess the situation.”
