Asaba, March 18, 2025 – The Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) has passed a new law that will regulate companies and individuals who provide domestic staff, such as housekeepers, nannies, and cooks.
The Delta State Domestic Staff Service Providers Registration Bill 2024 was approved during a plenary session led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor. This means that after careful review, all members of the House agreed that the bill should become law.

What the New Law Means
This law will help ensure that domestic staff service providers are properly registered and regulated. It is meant to protect both the workers and their employers by making sure that domestic staff are hired legally and treated fairly.
Before the law was passed, the House Committee on Women Affairs and Humanitarian Support Services, led by Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, carefully examined every part of the bill. The Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, then made a formal request for the bill to be passed, which was supported by Hon. Augustine Uroye from Warri South 1 constituency.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Guwor praised all lawmakers for their hard work in making sure the bill was properly reviewed. He said the law would bring order to the hiring of domestic workers and ensure fairness for both employees and employers.

In another important moment, Hon. Spencer Owhofa from Ughelli North II constituency thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Police, and other leaders for resolving conflicts between farmers and herders in Uwheru Kingdom. He said that this step had improved security in the area, making people feel safer.
