The ICT/CBT Center in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State, is nearing completion, and its impact on local communities is already being praised by officials and community leaders. During an inspection on October 10, 2024, Delta State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Odinigwe Daniel Odigie, highlighted the importance of the center to the state and its residents.
Dr. Odigie explained that the center, which features 100 desktop computers, 200 laptops, reliable power, CCTV, and a solar-powered borehole, will allow local students to take JAMB and WAEC exams using the Computer-Based Test (CBT) method. “This project is very important to us and the Governor of Delta State. It will allow students to take JAMB exams without traveling far, reducing risks such as road accidents and kidnapping. Additionally, the center will serve as a hub for skill acquisition and job creation, offering employment opportunities to hundreds of youths,” he said.
He further noted that the center will benefit neighboring areas like Oshimili North, Oshimili South, and Ika South, and thanked the community for their continuous support and security efforts throughout the construction process.
Charles Omordia, founder of Schoolville Academy Limited and consultant for the project, spoke on the collaboration between the state government and the community. “The community recognized the need to bring technology to the grassroots, and the state government funded and equipped the project. This center will give residents access to technology and national education programs like JAMB,” Omordia stated. He also commended the community for ensuring the site’s security, with no incidents of theft since the project began.
Hon. Kenneth Nkem Isibor, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Government on Project Monitoring and Audit, who led the inspection, added that the center would support skill development and align with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda. “Once completed, the center will not only facilitate JAMB and other exams using CBT but will also provide a platform for ICT training and skill development at the grassroots level,” he said.
Patrick Ejidoh, President General of the Onicha-Olona community, expressed gratitude to the state government. “Our community built the structure, and the state government has equipped it excellently. This project will serve Aniocha North and beyond, changing lives by providing crucial ICT knowledge to our youth,” Ejidoh said.
The ICT/CBT Center in Onicha-Olona is set to be a transformative project for the region, promoting education and technological growth for local residents.
