Port Harcourt, Nigeria – May 3, 2025 – A woman named Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State. She was caught while trying to travel with illegal drugs hidden in her body.
According to a statement shared by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the arrest happened on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Obehi was at the airport’s departure hall and about to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran through Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
Obehi wore a hijab, a long covering used by some women, hoping to hide the drugs and avoid being searched by airport officers. But the NDLEA officers became suspicious and checked her carefully.
During the search, officers found that she had:
- Swallowed 67 small packets of cocaine.
- Hidden two large packets of the drug in a fake bottom of her handbag.
- Inserted three more packets in her private parts.
Because she had swallowed the drugs, officers placed her under special medical observation. Over several days, she passed out all 67 packets from her stomach.
Obehi told the officers that she was supposed to swallow 70 packets but could only manage 67. So, she hid the remaining three in her private parts.
The total amount of cocaine found on her was about 2.523 kilograms — that’s more than two large bags of sugar in weight.
The NDLEA says they are continuing their investigation and will take legal action against her for trying to smuggle dangerous drugs.
