Meet the New Faces Leading DSPG Alumni into the Future

Dynamic, driven, and ready to serve — get to know the individuals spearheading the next chapter for the DSPG alumni community.

Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State – Saturday, July 5, 2025 It was a historic and energetic weekend at the permanent site of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG), as old students of the institution gathered in large numbers for the second Alumni Congress and elected a new set of executives to lead the Alumni Association.

The highlight of the event was the keenly contested election, which saw Comrade Onowakpo Ufuoma Festus—popularly known as “Poposki the Shining Light”—emerge as the new National President of the DSPG Alumni Association. Poposki secured a total of 134 votes, defeating his opponent, Comrade Wisdom Imarah, who polled 49 votes, in what many described as a free, fair, and transparent election.

“We Have Work To Do” – President-Elect Speaks

In his victory speech, Comr. Onowakpo expressed deep appreciation and shared what motivated him to run.

“We have been part of every process—from the reconciliation committee to the convention planning. It was only natural for me to step up and run for President,” he said.

He emphasized his desire to grow the Alumni body, get more chapters running (including outside Nigeria), and give back to the school through major development projects.

One of his top priorities is addressing the lack of clean, running water in student hostels.

“I’ve seen students run around in search of water for basic needs like bathing and cooking. With the support of my team and God, we’ll work with the school management and state government to establish a permanent water supply system across the campus,” he said.

He also spoke about helping DSPG graduates get better job opportunities:

“Many of our graduates are doing well, but many are still struggling. We want to partner with successful alumni and companies to help our people get jobs faster without unnecessary difficulties. Companies like Rainoil, where I work, have seen the value of DSPG graduates. We want to show other businesses that DSPG graduates can take their companies higher.”

Outgoing President Reflects on His Tenure

The outgoing President, Comr. Sunny Osamor, described the peaceful handover as his greatest achievement.

“For me, the most memorable part of my time in office was having a peaceful transition. That’s the real success,” he said.

He admitted facing challenges during his administration, especially in working with the school management.

“At first, there were gaps in understanding. But with constant communication, we built a strong relationship,” he explained.

He advised the new leaders to carry everyone along and respect the power of the people.

“Always seek wise counsel, and don’t forget the foundation others laid. You’ll go far.”

Alumni Members Speak

Alumni members who attended the event shared their thoughts on the election and expectations for the new leadership.

Comr. Oghomme Orevaoghene, Chairman of the Isoko Chapter, said:

“This is not a money-making group. Our job is to give back to the school that made us. The election was fair and clear, and I believe the new team will deliver.”

He emphasized that Alumni groups help reconnect old classmates and build stronger communities.

Mrs. Joan Chiazor Chioma (also known as Obi Joan, Mass Communication Class of 2015), added:

“I’m happy to be part of this. If we don’t come together, we can’t grow. I want to see the new executives carry us to greater heights.”

On the election itself, she said:

“It was free and fair. No manipulation. The people’s choice won.”

The 2025 Alumni Congress was more than just an election—it was a celebration of unity, progress, and hope for a brighter future for DSPG and its graduates. With fresh leadership now in place, expectations are high that the Alumni Association will take the Polytechnic to new levels of recognition, development, and impact across Nigeria and beyond.
